It’s been a rough week in publishing for Romanclandia.
A lot of us have been affected personally by the unfortunate closing of Less Than Three Press, myself included. As hard as it is to see such a valued publisher have to leave us, I appreciate how it was all handled. Some of the authors I know who had work with LT3 plan on re-releasing their work via self-pub. However, many people have said they will not be re-releasing work published with LT3. So if you have had your eye on something, get it now!
Perhaps more concerning is the reorganization, and other changes going on with Carina Press. They are such a large presence in romance publishing that any changes going on with them will have a ripple effect felt through the entire genre. Personally, I am very concerned about the direction changes indicated at Carina and how it will affect marginalized creators. I know a lot of people will be keeping a close eye on that over the next month or so. It’s hard to know what the fall out will be.
It’s a lot to deal with, especially within the space of just a few days.
For me, my concern is what happens now. LT3 was a well-respected, and well run mid-range publisher in romance. There isn’t anyone standing in the wings to fill that role. Realistically, publishing is always in flux, but I know there are a lot of us watching the changes going on, and wondering where we stand.
Good luck to all of us!
