I’m struggling, as I’m sure a lot of you are, to create right now. I touched on this a little bit in my last post and I wanted to check in with everyone, update you on my progress and see what tips we can share.

It’s not just the creating itself that’s difficult. It’s finding time and space to create. It’s unreliable internet keeping me from writer’s group and the inability to separate from my family when I try to write at home. It’s months on end without even realizing I should have written a blog post by now.  It’s coming home from work on a Wednesday and struggling to go back to the office just so I an use the internet to join writer’s group.

I’ve always done my best creating in a public space where there are no real life distractions for me, and I know I’m not alone in this. Now that public spaces aren’t open, or allowing people to congregate if they are open, what resources are you using to keep creating?

At Tickled Ink, we started a Discord Channel where we do virtual meetings every week. I’m going to be honest and say, even though it’s the best we’ve got right now, it’s not working for me. I either have no internet at home, or if I have internet, I can’t get away from kids and laundry. I’ve been coming to the office to write, and meet, but as the restrictions relax, the office is often to busy to get enough quiet for a video meeting.

I’ve also made a shift in my writing plan. I’m stalled out on novels, so I’m trying my hand at short stories again. I had a lot of luck when I did my 30 Submissions in 12 Months and it’s inspired me to try it again.I’m hoping shorter stories will be more conducive to my lack of focus.

So, what’s working for all of you in our social distancing world?
